Access proposal project: topic/format proposal
Due: 5/1
Total points: 0, but required
Please review the instructions/guidelines for Assignment #9, the access and use project, before 5/1.
We will meet in class on 5/1 for short conferences during the practicum section of the class to review your thoughts on the following items:
- type or format of access initiative:
- Initiatives can take the form of: exhibits, social media campaigns, digitization, instruction sessions/courses, public programs, walking tours, lectures, workshops, conferences, non-scholarly publications, LibGuides, fellowships, open house events, reading groups, etc. (these are just the first examples to come to mind. you are not restricted to these initiatives.)
- you can use extremely broad strokes for this at this point! The paper is where you will drill down into specifics
- need inspiration?
- browse QC SCA’s tag on the library blog or look at the event calendar.
- other examples of libraries/archives events and access/use initiatives (you may need to filter/sort): Archivists Round Table, Library of Congress, METRO, NYU, NYPL, BPL/CBH, CUNY, NYC Records and Municipal Archives, Centro Archives, LaGuardia Wagner Archives (scroll for Features and Education Programs), Barnard Events, Teaching, and Collaborations
- which collection you intend to use/highlight
- the collection must be processed (no unprocessed collections)
- review the QC SCA finding aids database
- if you are working by yourself or with a partner
- which date you would like to present on (5/15 or 5/22). I will try to accommodate this request, but cannot guarantee your preferred date.
Feedback will include confirmation of presentation date and more targeted measures of evaluation, depending on which route you end up pursuing.
*** Your initiative can change from the proposal to the final assignment. Please check in with me at any point and especially during class time if you need further help brainstorming, workshopping, or refining your ideas into a workable project.
